Most failed scans are down to the connection or a busy scanner, and trying again a minute later works. If a scan finds no pieces, the photo is usually the cause.
What the message means
| What the app tells you | What to do |
|---|---|
| The scanner’s busy | Wait a minute and tap Try again. A scan that fails this way is not counted |
| Couldn’t send the photo | Check your internet connection and try again |
| That photo didn’t work | Take the photo again |
| The camera didn’t take that one | Tap Try again |
| Something went wrong with the scan | Wait a minute and tap Try again |
| That’s today’s scans used up | You have had your tray scans for today. Sort by hand, or scan one brick at a time |
| Your purchase is still being confirmed | You have just bought something. Wait a minute and tap Try again |
The daily count of tray scans starts again at midnight UTC, which may not be midnight where you are.
The scan found no pieces
The app says it could not find any pieces in the photo, and offers Scan again. Check that:
- the surface is plain, not patterned and not wood grain;
- the pieces are inside the dashed outline;
- there is enough light, without hard shadows.
A scan that comes back with no pieces still counts as one of your scans. A scan that fails because the scanner was busy does not. See Getting better scans.
The one-brick camera could not match a piece
Move closer and try again. If it still cannot match the piece, skip it or place it by hand. The one-brick camera only matches pieces your tubs still need.
If it says the scan failed, check your connection and try again.
It found pieces but got some wrong
That is expected now and then. You can correct any piece before you put the tray away. See When the scanner is not sure.
If the signal is poor
A tray scan sends a photo and waits for an answer, so it needs a steady connection. See Using the app without a signal.
