The camera will not open

The camera needs your permission the first time you use it. If you refused, you have to turn it on in your phone’s settings. The camera also needs a sort in progress before it will scan.

It asks to use the camera

Tap Allow camera, then allow it when your phone asks.

You refused permission earlier

On the Whole tray tab, the app tells you to turn the camera on for BrickSorter in Settings, and shows Open Settings. Tap it, switch the camera on, and come back to the app.

On the One brick tab, the button still says Allow camera. If tapping it does nothing, open your phone’s own settings, find BrickSorter in the list of apps, and allow the camera there.

It says there is nothing to hunt for

The scanner needs a sort in progress, so it knows which pieces to look for. Tap Set up a sort, start sorting, then open the camera again.

You will also see this when every piece has been placed.

It says no camera was found

The app uses the camera on the back of the device. If the device does not have one that the app can use, scanning is not available on it. Sorting by hand works as normal.

The Whole tray tab has a padlock

The whole-tray scanner is locked for one of two reasons. Tap the tab and the app says which.

  • You have used your tray scans to try, and have not bought anything.
  • You have no pieces left to sort with.

The One brick camera is never locked. See What is free and what is paid.

The Whole tray tab asks for an account

The whole-tray scanner is not available in guest mode. Tap Create an account and your sets come with you. See Guest mode and keeping your sets safe.

The camera opens but the scan fails

See A scan failed or found nothing.
