These terms cover the BrickSorter app and this website, bricksorter.app. BrickSorter is run by Alastair McDonald, trading as Digital Blocks, a sole proprietorship in Quebec, Canada, called “we” and “us” below. By using the app or the website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use BrickSorter.
What we do with your information is in the Privacy Policy. The Cookie Policy covers this website.
Using BrickSorter
BrickSorter helps you sort a mixed pile of LEGO® bricks back into sets. Use it for that.
We let you use the app and the website. We do not hand over ownership of them, or of the BrickSorter name and design.
The App Store and Google Play have terms of their own, which also apply to the app you get from them and to anything you buy through them.
Your account
You can use the app in guest mode, without an account. A guest’s sets belong to that one sign-in, on that one phone or tablet. If you sign out as a guest, or remove the app, they are lost to you. Create an account to keep them.
If you create an account, keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
You can delete your account at any time, in Settings. That removes what is saved to it and cannot be undone. How to delete your account has the steps, and the Privacy Policy says exactly what is deleted. Deleting your account does not cancel a Pro subscription. Cancel that in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
The catalogue
Set and part information comes from Rebrickable and the LEGO Group. LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group, which does not sponsor or endorse this app or this website. We’re not affiliated with the LEGO Group or Rebrickable.
The catalogue is only as good as its sources. A set’s parts list can be incomplete or wrong, and a very new set may not be listed yet.
The tray scanner compares pieces with part shapes from the LDraw Parts Library, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.
Purchases
You can sort your first pieces free (the app says how many before you start) and try the tray scanner a few times. After that, sorting more needs one of these:
- More pieces. One payment adds a set number of pieces to your account. The app shows the number and the price before you pay. They have no time limit, and nothing renews. You can buy more whenever you like.
- Pro. A subscription with no limit on pieces. It is charged every month and renews until you cancel, which you can do at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. After you cancel, it runs to the end of the month already paid for. Pieces you sort while Pro is running are not counted, so they do not use up pieces you have bought.
Tray scanning comes with either, up to a number of scans a day that the app shows. A tray scan puts pieces away, so without Pro it needs pieces left on your account. Scanning one brick at a time is included for everyone.
How pieces are counted. A piece counts when you put it in its tub. If you take it out again within a few minutes it does not count. After that we give back a fair number of pieces taken out by mistake, but not without limit. If you finish a set and later sort it again with “Sort it again”, the pieces you sorted in it before do not count a second time.
Paying. Payment is taken by the App Store or Google Play, under their terms. Refunds are theirs to give: ask Apple or Google. If a purchase is refunded, what it paid for is taken off your account.
Where purchases are kept. What you buy is kept with your account, not on your phone, so buying needs an account (not guest mode). Sign in on a new phone and it is there. Pieces stay with the account that bought them and cannot be moved to another. If you reinstall the app, “Restore purchases” finds a Pro subscription again. Nothing you buy can be exchanged for money. If you delete your account, anything you have not used goes with it.
Changes. We may change prices, and what a purchase includes, for purchases not yet made. We may also change how many pieces are free.
The scanner
The scanners are there to help, and their answers are a best guess. A scanner can miss a piece or name one wrongly, and sometimes it says it is not sure and asks you to check. Have a look before you put a piece away.
The tray scanner needs an account and has a daily limit, and either scanner may be busy or switched off for a time. Sorting by hand does not depend on them.
Point the camera at your bricks and nothing else. Keep people, screens and paperwork out of the picture. The Privacy Policy says what happens to scanner photos.
If you choose to help teach the scanner, you let us keep the pictures you send and use them to test and improve BrickSorter’s scanner. You can stop at any time in Settings, and ask us to delete them.
What is not allowed
Please don’t:
- misuse BrickSorter, try to break it, or try to get into anything that is not yours;
- try to get round the limits on pieces or scans, or to get what is paid for without paying;
- reach our servers with anything other than the app and the website, or copy the catalogue out of them in bulk;
- send pictures of people, or of anything private, through the scanner;
- use BrickSorter to break the law.
If you do any of these, we may suspend or close your account.
The website
The website is there to tell you about the app and to help you use it. We try to keep it right, but it is information only: details can change, and a page can fall behind the app. If the website and the app disagree about a price or about what a purchase includes, what the app shows before you pay is what counts.
The website links to other sites, such as the App Store and Google Play. We are not responsible for them.
No guarantees
BrickSorter is provided “as is”. We do our best, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of mistakes, or that the scanner and the catalogue will always be right.
Our responsibility to you
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that come from using BrickSorter, or from not being able to use it.
Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not let us limit, or takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer where you live.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of Quebec and the laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer, you also keep any protection that the law where you live gives you and that cannot be signed away.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.
