What BrickSorter does and how sorting works

BrickSorter helps you sort a mixed pile of LEGO® bricks back into the sets they came from. You tell it which sets are in the pile. It then shows you one piece at a time and tells you which tub to put it in, and how many.

The idea in one line

While you sort, each set is a tub with a letter on it. You do not need to remember which set a piece belongs to. You match the letter.

How a sort goes

  1. You add your sets, usually by typing the number from each instruction booklet.
  2. The app gives each set a letter: A, B, C and so on.
  3. You label a real tub or box for each letter.
  4. The app shows a picture of a piece and how many to find.
  5. You find those pieces in the pile, drop them in the tubs shown, and tap each tub as you go.
  6. When every tub has what it needs, the next piece appears.

When a tub holds every piece of its set, the app tells you the set is finished. If more sets are waiting, the next one takes over that tub.

What the app does for you

  • It sorts several sets at once. One piece can be needed by two or three sets, and the app shows every tub that needs it.
  • It chooses the order. You can tell it what matters most by choosing a goal.
  • It never leaves you stuck on one piece. You can skip it, and it comes back at the end when the pile is small.
  • It shows each piece as a picture, so there are no part numbers to look up.
  • It saves your place as you go, so you can stop at any time.

The scanners are optional

There are two scanners for pieces you cannot place: one for a single brick and one for a whole tray. Sorting by hand works without either.
