What you need before you start

You need the app, the pile, your set numbers and a few containers to use as tubs. You do not need an account, and you do not need the camera.

The checklist

  • A phone or tablet with BrickSorter installed.
  • An internet connection. It is needed to sign in, to add sets and to use the camera.
  • Your set numbers. The number is printed on the front cover of each instruction booklet. If a booklet is lost, you can browse for the set by name instead.
  • Tubs. Any containers work: tubs, bowls or boxes. You need one for each set you want to sort at the same time.
  • Labels. Something to write a letter on and stick to each tub.
  • One extra tub with no letter. Pieces you spot that the app has not asked for yet go in there.
  • Somewhere bright. Tip the pile out where the light is good.

You do not need an account

You can start as a guest. An account is needed later if you want to use the whole-tray scanner, buy more pieces or carry on from another device. See Guest mode and keeping your sets safe.

You do not need every set

Add the sets you know are in the pile. You can add more at any time. Pieces from sets you have not added are never asked for, so they stay in the pile.

If you plan to scan a whole tray

The whole-tray scanner needs a plain surface, not patterned and not wood grain, with the pieces spread out so none are touching.

Next steps

  1. Add your sets.
  2. Label your tubs.
  3. Start sorting.
