Spread some pieces on a plain surface and take one photo. The app marks each piece it recognises with its tub’s letter. You check the result, then put them all away with one tap.
Before you scan
- You need an account. A guest is asked to create one.
- A sort must be in progress, so the app knows which pieces to look for.
- Spread the pieces out so none are touching, on a plain surface. See Getting better scans.
How to scan a tray
- Tap Scan in the bar at the bottom, or Use the camera on the sort screen.
- Tap Whole tray.
- Hold the phone flat above the tray, with the tray inside the dashed outline.
- Tap Scan this tray and hold still. The app says Finding pieces… while it works. This can take up to about 45 seconds.
Reading the result
The photo comes back with a mark on each piece.
| Mark on the piece | What it means |
|---|---|
| A tub’s letter | The piece goes in that tub |
| An amber question mark | The scanner is not sure. Tap it to choose |
| A pale tick | Your sets already have enough of this piece |
| A faint outline and no mark | Not a piece your tubs need |
Under the photo, one line says how many pieces were found. Below it is a row for each piece and tub, with a counter that starts at what the scanner counted.
- Tap a row to light up those pieces on the photo.
- Tap + or − to correct a count.
- Tap the zoom button on the photo to look closer.
Putting the pieces away
- Drop each piece in its tub.
- Tap the yellow button, for example Put 12 pieces away.
The counts go into your sort in one go. One tap of Undo on the sort screen takes the whole tray back. To take another photo without saving anything, tap Scan again.
Limits
- Every account has 5 tray scans to try. After that the scanner comes with any purchase, up to 20 scans a day. See What is free and what is paid.
- One photo handles up to about 200 pieces. With more, the scanner does the biggest and asks you to scan the rest in a second go.
- The scanner is not always right. See When the scanner is not sure.
